ABOUT THIS PROJECT
As a result of Hurricane Sandy, GLDD was awarded a shoreline restoration and coastline protection project along New Jersey’s Long Beach Island. Work involves dredging and placing approximately 2.97 million cubic yards of beach fill along 2.2 miles of the LBI coastline. This project restores the beaches and dunes to pre-Sandy conditions. Also specified within the contract is dune construction, planting of dune grass, and repairing of sand fence and dune crossover to further protect the New Jersey coastline.
