Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company is the largest provider of dredging, land reclamation and beach nourishment services in the United States, and the only U.S. dredging company with significant international operations.  With the largest and most diverse dredging fleet in the U.S., Great Lakes serves a wide range of customers including the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers; State, Local and Foreign Governments; and private companies both international and domestic.  Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, GLDD has more than 200 pieces of dredging plant located strategically throughout North America and in various locations throughout the world.  We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Site Safety & Health Advisor. 
Responsibilities
  • Implement the project site safety and health requirements put forth in the Company's Safety Management Program
  • Guide and support the Project Management Team in all aspects of the company's Incident & Injury Free Safety initiative
  • Be 100% familiar with the requirements of the contract specifications and ensure compliance with all safety, health and environmental issues
  • Make daily inspection rounds to observe and guide personnel in safe work practices and methods
  • Participate in project progress meetings and stay abreast of task scheduling to ensure that potential workplace hazards are discussed and safe work practices planned
  • Assist and guide Site Supervisors in preparation and execution of Weekly Tool Box Safety Meetings
  • Prepare a weekly safety report summarizing your daily activities, training and near miss and incident summary
  • Assist Site Management in conducting new hire safety orientations, familiarization walk-a-rounds and implementation of the "Green Hat" training program
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and guide the crews in preparation of Job Safety Analyses
  • Liaise with the appropriate Division Safety, Health & Environmental Manager, as necessary, to address project safety, health and environmental compliance issues
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of continuous construction safety experience within the past 5 years is required
  • Must have OSHA 30 training certificate.  Other formal classroom training in safety related coursework within the last 4 years is a plus
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficient
  • Valid driver's license required
